PassoverPassover 2012

Re-published From Hersite

Several years ago Michael and I did something drastic in our friends and families eyes. To many of our friends, what we were doing was unthinkable….. We actually gave up Christmas.

We abandoned the holidays of Christmas, Halloween and Easter, and instead ….switched to celebrating the biblical feasts found in the bible such as (Feast of Tabernackles, Passover and so forth) You can find out the significance of these holidays at the bottom of this post……

It was quite a shock to our families, as you can imagine……..and for us, it was very new.

We had to get used to the idea of new celebrations on different dates. It wasn’t out of obligation, but rather excitement to find all the celebrations in the scriptures were backed by more meaning than the ones we had kept for years and years. What we found was, the financial burden of Christmas was taken off our shoulders, and the actual biblical celebrations cost no money, and held a lot more meaning.

For us, it was easier than most people who start following the biblical holidays. We didn’t have kids, and we didn’t live near family. So we could do our own thing for a number of years, before we faced the questions of why, why, why???

With the blood red moons also showing up on these biblical feasts this year and the coming years ahead, it showed us that God was still involved in his celebrations and held more meaning than the Roman / Catholic holidays we all grew up celebrating.

  • The Blood Red Moons Of 2014 And 2015: An Omen Of War For Israel? The Truth Wins

After a couple years celebrating them, it is nice to know that we can make them our own, put our own traditions and spin on them, and have fun with them as well.

Fast forward to this year…….

We have another really interesting celebration upon us… called the Shmita.

The Shmita was a biblical rest for the land that would happen every 7 years.

“You may plant your land for six years and gather its crops. But during the seventh year, you must leave it alone and withdraw from it. The needy among you will then be able to eat just as you do, and whatever is left over can be eaten by wild animals. This also applies to your vineyard and your olive grove.” (Exodus 23:10-11) (Leviticus 25:1-7), (Leviticus 25:20-22), (Deuteronomy 31:10-13), (Jeremiah 34:13-14), (Nehemiah 10:31), (2 Chronicles 36:20-21),

If you look into the word, the bible tells us that the children of God were kicked out of the land for worshiping other Gods, but another reason was because they ignored or did away with the land rests.

The other feasts of the Lord, in comparison to the land rest, ARE pretty simple to keep. The only requirement for most of them is either… take the day off, or fast on Day of Atonement, camp on Tabernackles, ….so in other words, they are pretty simple to keep. You could make them your own, except for a few things that were required, like I mentioned.

The Shmita rest, on the other hand, required you to live off your food storage for a year. I know dozens of people who keep the other biblical holidays,…. but this one is quite new to everyone…that they don’t know what to do. I know just one other person, in all my searching who actually stored food for a whole year, and managed to get through it.

So, you can imagine how difficult it would be for the people of today to store up a years worth of food, when most people rely on going to the grocery store several times per week.

Back in biblical times, whole communities would store up food, making it easier, because everyone would participate. You didn’t have car payments, or have the tremendous financial obligations as we do today. Farming was a day to day lifestyle back then, and most families worked and lived together. So in short, to keep the land rest, ……the people had to refrain from anything grown from the land, which couldn’t be eaten that year, but dairy, meat could be consumed. You could dehydrate your produce for that coming year, or can previous years for the 7th year land rest. Rice, and grains were stored up, and eaten as normal through this time. The only difference was they were not able to plant a new garden through that spring or summer season.

Up to the last couple years, the Shmita, along with the other holidays were ignored in the bible, or considered old, and done away with.

Yet, this year, for the first year ever….the Israeli government set aside $29 million to encourage local farmers to observe this ancient biblical commandment to let their fields lay rest this coming year. Read more here…..

In fact, more Christians are taking notice of these biblical holidays, because it seems like more events are occurring on them, such as the blood moons we keep hearing about.

A Best Seller Already Which Is To Be Released In September 2014

Jonathan Cahn has another fantastic book that is to be released in September which examines the economic crashes of the last 60 years that are associated with the Shmita land rest. It is already a best seller, and it hasn’t been released yet. Almost everyone is waiting for this book in the Messianic and Christian communities….

If you have read Jonathan Cahn’s Book, you’ll come across the segments about “The Mystery Of The Shemitah”. He points out how the two largest stock market crashes in 2001 and 2008 occurred exactly on the same day as Elul 29, which marked the end of “Sabbatical Years” — which, by the way, occur every seven Jewish years. Given the astounding accuracy of these dates, this really deserves some attention. Indeed, let’s take a look at some facts: The nearly 700 point drop in the DJIA (just over 7%) on 9/17/2001 and 777.7 point drop in the DJIA on 9/29/2008 (just below 7%) were two of the three largest Dow point drops in U.S. history. These drops occurred on the last day of the Sabbatical Years that occurred between 2000 and 2001 and between 2007 and 2008. This last day of the Sabbatical Year is when debts are to be forgiven per Jewish tradition.

Get A Taste Of This Talk In Advance…..

It looks like someone uploaded a 4 part series talk where Jonathan talks more about this Shmita rest, and how in the past, the United States was judged on that very day.

While “The Harbinger” and “The Isaiah 9:10 Judgment” showed that the economic crashes of 2001 and 2008 occurred on the last day of the “Shemitah,” Elul 29 on the biblical calendar, the new book examines other economic crashes of the last 60 years and finds similar striking links to the pattern.

The book, releasing Sept. 2, comes out on the eve of the next “Shemitah” cycle, which ends Sept. 13, 2015 – a day that will also feature a solar eclipse. The good news for Wall Street is that the date falls on a Sunday, so the stock market will be closed.

In 1931, a solar eclipse took place on Sept. 12 – the end of a “Shemitah” year. Eight days later, England abandoned the gold standard, setting off market crashes and bank failures around the world. It also ushered in the greatest month long stock market percentage crash in Wall Street history.

In 1987, a solar eclipse took place Sept. 23 – again the end of a “Shemitah” year. Less than 30 days later came “Black Monday” the greatest percentage crash in Wall Street history.

Is Cahn predicting doom and gloom on Sept. 13, 2015? He’s careful to avoid a prediction….. Read more at

It is his belief that the Shmita starts this fall, while others think it is next fall, …….so it will be interesting to see of we see a major crash will occur again this upcoming year, seen in the stock market, or other areas.

So, here we have additional evidence that God’s word in the “Old Testament” is still alive and active today.

The best thing about these celebrations is they are for ALL those who believe in the God of the Bible. It just so happens to be that Judah, (the Jews) (one of the 12 tribes) was the only ones who really have kept them going over the years. They are not called Jewish feasts, because they belong to all the children of God. Millions of Christians are grabbing a hold of these things, and a big movement of this has occurred in the last 30 or so years.

Why The Biblical Feasts Are So Interesting………….

The appointed festivals in Leviticus are like dress rehearsals for the most important events in all of history.
The one thing (amongst so many others) that distinguishes the bible from so many other religious texts, is the fact that the authors of the books were able to foretell events in the future before they happened. This is called prophecy.
There are 2000 pieces of prophecy in the bible, 300 of them talk about the messiah, whom I identify being Yeshua (His hebrew name) or Jesus.

Think of the appointed festivals in Leviticus 23 as DRESS REHEARSALS. We are to rehearse them year to year, so we KNOW what to expect when the real thing unfolds.

The Festivals that have been kept for thousands of years by the followers of Yahweh are those such as (Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits), AND ( Pentecost, Trumpets and Atonement) You also have “New Moon, Shmita, and Jubilee as additional special festivals.

  • The festival of “Feast of Tabernackles“, was a celebration held for thousands of years. The believers of Yahweh would gather in Jerusalem, and would set up tents and dwell in them as one of the main requirements of the festival. So think of a week of camping, more or less. Why were they brought to that location….., and why the tents? In fact, Yeshua Jesus was born 5 miles out of the city at the START of this festival in a humble tent. Yahweh was telling them that they would be celebrating Yeshua our redeemer who was to come. Now that he has come, we celebrate his birthday on that day. This happens in the fall season, not winter. Amazing eh?
  • The festival of Passover – for thousands of years, the believers would have to sacrifice a lamb for their sins on this festival. A male first born lamb was required without spot or blemish. The very day that the lamb was to be examined by the festival, Yeshua rode in on a donkey, in essence to be examined by the people as THEIR lamb. He died for our sins right on Passover, and in the word, the Romans were responsible to get him down, off the tree before the Feast of Unleavened Bread started. He then fulfilled the festival of “First Fruits” resurrecting on that exact day. Amazing !!!

Every feast was timed perfectly to full-fill prophecy. Yeshua was born on Yahweh’s high holy day, died on Yahweh’s High Holy Day, and Resurrected on Yahweh’s High Holy Day, and WILL return On Yahweh’s High Holy Day. All these festivals have a purpose. Yahweh was telling us to PAY ATTENTION on these days.

  • Feast of Trumpets is when Yeshua will gather us up to the Great supper, and just a little while later, we will return with him on Atonement, where he will take down Satan and reign for 1000 years. In the word of God, he tells us WHERE Yeshua will return in advance….. We celebrate this day as millions of other believers have before us, but these two prophecies are yet to be full-filled.
  • Pentecost is when the Holy Spirit was poured out. Again, the location of this festival was pre-determined and celebrated for thousands of years, because ONE year, the Holy Spirit would be given, just like Yeshua was born on one of the years of “Tabernackles”

So there you go! Now you know the reason behind these festivals…. and that there is purpose behind them…….

For years, I often wondered how bunnies tied into Easter, or why we celebrate Santa Claus…or so many of the other traditions. I came to learn the history behind them, and even though so many others still keep them, we decided that the feasts actually contain richer meaning for us.

We still have our own special present giving, and other things that make these holidays unique for us. We are learning and growing in them as the years pass. You simply cannot do wrong, if you are trying your best to keep them.

The best thing is knowing that God had created them for a purpose. Stumbling across them changed our lives…. I hope you can find richness in them as well. Meranda~
