Does God send modern prophets today?
During service on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015, in Sun Valley, California, a man dressed in black confronts MacArthur with a very bold message.
“”You’ve grieved the Holy Spirit of God. Your doctrine of cessation is in error,”……… “He has been grieved, John MacArthur. He has sent me here to tell you that.”
“You’re sharpening the sword, and they are cutting each other,” the unknown man added while pointing at the congregation. Just then, two men in suits began leading him away from the podium. As they were shuffling him off the stage, he continued addressing MacArthur: “You may not believe in prophets, but you’re looking at one.”
“Your doctrine of cessation is in error,” the man repeated, as they rushed him out of the sanctuary. While it is hard to hear from the audio, the man yells for “sinners” to “repent.” and then tells the onlookers “God bless you,”

John MacArthur has written books regarding his position about signs, wonders and miracles, which he believes ended with the death of the apostles 2000 years ago. He details his opinion in his books Charismatic Chaos, and Strange Fire.
Strange Fire is basically an attack on everything related to the charismatic movement. MacArthur characterizes the gift of tongues, for instance, as “babble,”referring it to the flames of “strange fire,”.
He simply ignores clear teaching of scripture, such as Paul in 1 Corinthians 14 who clearly defines its use in corporate prayer (with interpretation) and for private personal edification. In fact, the 120 did speak in tongues on the Day of Pentecost. Paul goes on to say, ….. “I wish that you all spoke in tongues.”
Nowhere does the Scripture say that any of the supernatural gifts would cease with time.
What did the prophet mean when he said “You’re sharpening the sword, and they are cutting each other,“
After talking with my husband, he shed some light on this.
Teachers like MacArthur, discredit ministries that operate in the gifts, and they do so widely on radio shows and tv appearances. Christians who follow in these different circles listen to this message over and over again. They are fed these accusations and start becoming bitter, and develop a hatred towards other believers that believe differently from them.
Teachers like MacArthur are sharpening the edge of Christians who then go out there and shame, and develop a distaste for other ministries, and in the end, the believers they empower, ( like it or not ) then start strife in the body of Christ. When a warning message is loud and clear through the body of Christ, these Christians are going to be taught to ignore it.
After looking around on the net, many comments would have liked to hear more from this prophet who confronted MacArthur. I couldn’t watch the rest of the video, where mocking of this man took place.
Does God send prophets today to rebuke teachers who limit the Holy Spirit?
I would say yes, how about you?
